Retail sales growth in Germany fell short of expectations in April, according to official data released on Thursday.
The real (price-adjusted) turnover of retail enterprises rose 0.8% from the March figure, which had registered a 2.4% decline compared to a month prior, Destatis data showed.
April’s figure was lower than the market estimate of a 1% increase.
Retail sales for food rose 0.5% month-on-month in April, while non-food sales increased 0.7%.
Annually, retail sales plunged 4.3%, easing compared to the 8.6% decline in March.
