Fates of Ankara and Baku are intertwined, says Turkish vice president

Vice President Fuat Oktay on Friday underscored the historically robust ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, saying the fates of both nations are intertwined.

“We do not think of Ankara’s fate as separate from Baku’s fate, and we will not think so,” said Oktay during a speech at the reception commemorating the Day of Restoration of Independence of Azerbaijan in Ankara on Friday.

Türkiye and Azerbaijan will advance their relations in all areas as “one nation, two states, two friends, two brothers,” said Oktay.

The vice president also highlighted the recently liberated Azerbaijani territories and Türkiye’s support in assisting Azerbaijan in reclaiming the lands from illegal Armenian occupation and achieving peace.

“We have also provided our support to (Azerbaijan’s) normalization process with Armenia in order to consolidate peace in the region,” he said.

“Just as we supported the liberation of Karabakh from Armenia’s occupation, we are extending the same sincere support to the revitalization and stabilization of the region.”

“We see it as our primary duty to erase the traces of the years of occupation and return the region to its glorious years in its history at every point where the Azerbaijan flag is flying in Karabakh,” Oktay also said.
