Germany’s annual inflation slows to 8-month low in April

Annual consumer inflation in Germany eased to an eight-month low of 7.2% this month, according to flash estimate released on Friday.

The April inflation rate was down from 7.4% in March and 8.7% in February 2023, the country’s Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said in a statement.

Food price hikes lost momentum in April, up 17.2% versus 22.3% in March. Energy inflation, on the other hand, accelerated to 6.8% from 3.5%.

On a monthly basis, Destatis’ consumer price index rose 0.4% in April.
